JFK silences whispers of a New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership shake-up in Parliament
In a recent development, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has firmly addressed the rumors swirling around a potential reshuffle of the party's leadership in Parliament. Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Friday, February 13, 2025, Kodua made it clear that the idea of a leadership change is not on the party's agenda.
"This is something that hasn't come up for discussion, and I can't fathom why the party would want to change leadership in Parliament at this time," Kodua stated. He went on to praise the performance of the NPP's Minority leadership under Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, describing their work in Parliament as impressive.
"The party is overwhelmingly satisfied. We acknowledge the diligent work that the formidable Minority, led by Afenyo-Markin, has been doing, and we will continue to provide them with all the support they need to excel in their roles," Kodua said. He highlighted the caucus's efforts in holding the government accountable and advancing the party's positions on national issues, expressing pride in their achievements.
Amid the circulating rumors of leadership changes, Kodua made it clear that the NPP leadership stands firmly behind its current parliamentary team. He also expressed optimism about the party's path to power, stating that if they continue with the reorganization efforts, they are confident of returning to power in 2028.
However, this statement has sparked debate among Ghanaians, with some questioning the timing of such a move. Others argue that it is a strategic move to maintain stability and focus on the party's goals. The controversy surrounding this issue invites further discussion and commentary, as many are eager to see how the NPP navigates this delicate situation.
