Get ready to pump some iron! The Lime Kiln Leisure Centre gym is making a triumphant return after a significant makeover, and the reopening date has been officially announced. After a six-week closure, the gym, squash courts, and group exercise studio have undergone a complete transformation, promising a revitalized fitness experience for the Royal Wootton Bassett community. The closure began at the end of October 2025, prompting gym-goers to seek alternative workout spots. Nearby options included Swindon's Link Centre, a mere 12-minute drive away, the Ridgeway Leisure Centre (15 minutes), and the Wiltshire Council-run Calne Leisure Centre, which was a bit further at a 30-minute journey.
Now, the moment everyone's been waiting for is finally here. The Lime Kiln Leisure Centre gym is set to reopen its doors on Monday, December 15th. According to Wiltshire Council, the refurbishment aimed to create "a modern, accessible, and dynamic fitness space."
So, what's new? The gym boasts a reconfigured layout designed to maximize space and improve the flow of your workout. There's also new flooring and a fresh coat of paint. A dedicated functional fitness area has been added, complete with kettlebells, slam balls, medicine balls, battle ropes, and TRX equipment. Plus, the free-weight zone has expanded to include a squat rack, Smith machine, and bench press. Brand-new cardio and strength equipment has been supplied by Pulse Fitness, and the air conditioning has been upgraded.
Councillor Mel Jacob, cabinet member for communities, engagement, and corporate services, expressed excitement about the reopening, stating, "We’re thrilled to reopen the Lime Kiln gym just in time for Christmas, giving people the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the fantastic new facilities." She added, "This investment reflects our commitment to promoting healthier lives as part of Our Wiltshire Plan – helping people stay mentally and physically well by connecting them with their communities, including through our leisure centres."
And this is the part most people miss... The improvements at Lime Kiln Leisure Centre aren't just limited to this recent renovation. Previous upgrades to the swimming pool, changing rooms, and fitness studio took place in 2024. These included a full refurbishment of the changing rooms, new showers, and upgraded flooring in the swimming hall. These upgrades came after complaints about the state of the changing room facilities.
But here's where it gets controversial... Wiltshire Council has addressed concerns raised online regarding membership during the closure. Regular Lime Kiln gym users were compensated with a reduction in their November and December direct debit payments.
