She highlights the creation of over 650,000 private-sector jobs since the President took office, primarily for native-born Americans, as evidence of a robust economy.
But here's where it gets controversial... The Labor Department's report revealed that employers added 64,000 jobs in November, exceeding economists' expectations. However, the unemployment rate simultaneously rose to 4.6%, the highest since September 2021. Chavez-DeRemer argues that this is simply a reflection of more people looking for work, thanks to investments in initiatives like 'Make America Skilled Again,' and that the administration's momentum has not been halted, despite a 43-day shutdown.
And this is the part most people miss... When questioned about the impact of AI-driven efficiencies on job numbers, Chavez-DeRemer dismissed any direct link. She attributed layoffs to post-COVID hiring adjustments and emphasized the administration's focus on apprenticeship programs, with almost 300,000 new apprentices registered. The administration is focusing on preparing the trades to build the data centers that will support AI, recognizing the need for skilled tradesmen and craftsmen.
Chavez-DeRemer also echoed the President's claim of laying the groundwork for $18 trillion in wage and job growth and national security, emphasizing the administration's efforts to boost the economy.
