In a significant setback, the Broncos face a tough loss against #23 Iowa!
IOWA CITY, Iowa – On Sunday afternoon, the Western Michigan men's basketball team experienced a challenging defeat, succumbing to #23 Iowa with a score of 91-51.
Both Jalen Griffith and Carson Vis stepped up for WMU (5-6), each contributing 11 points to the team's effort, with Vis matching his personal best in scoring. Additionally, Jayden Brewer added to the team's total by scoring 10 points, marking him as another key player. Hudson Ward shined on the boards, tying his career high by grabbing seven rebounds, while Griffith led the squad with five assists.
Iowa (9-2) quickly established dominance, racing out to an early lead by scoring the first eight points of the game. After establishing a 12-7 advantage, the Hawkeyes launched into a commanding 22-3 run, pushing their lead to 34-10. They capped off the first half with a flurry, scoring the last nine points of the period and entering halftime with a staggering 52-16 lead. The second half saw Iowa continue to widen their margin.
The shooting statistics were telling; Western Michigan struggled with their accuracy, making only 17 of 57 attempts from the field, which translates to 29.8 percent. In stark contrast, Iowa showcased their offensive prowess, hitting 33 of 59 shots for an impressive 55.9 percent shooting rate.
