Australia's Golf Heroine Makes History!
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Hannah Green, the Australian golfing sensation, has etched her name in the annals of sports history by claiming the Women's World Championship title in Singapore for the second time.
But here's where it gets controversial... Green's victory wasn't without its nail-biting moments. She faced a fierce challenge from Auston Kim, the fast-rising American star, who almost snatched the win with a remarkable finish. With a 3-under-par 69, Green held her nerve, securing a one-stroke victory.
And this is the part most people miss... Green's compatriot, Minjee Lee, started the final round as a co-leader alongside Green. However, a mix of birdies and bogeys left Lee tied for third, alongside Angel Yin and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, at 11-under.
Green, the 2019 Women's PGA Champion, experienced an unpredictable back nine, with a mix of birdies and bogeys. It was a tense battle, and she sealed the deal with a bogey on the last hole, finishing at 14-under at the par-72 Sentosa Golf Club.
This isn't Green's first triumph in Singapore. She previously won here in 2024, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with on the global stage.
Kim's performance was equally impressive, matching the day's best round with a 67, showcasing six birdies and an eagle. However, bogeys at the second hole and the par-3 15th ultimately halted her charge, leaving her at 13-under.
Lee's round was a rollercoaster, with three birdies and an equal number of bogeys, resulting in a frustrating even-par 72.
Top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul, fresh from her victory in Thailand last week, shot a 73 on Sunday, ending up at 2-under and tied for 31st place. She was just one shot behind New Zealand's defending champion, Lydia Ko, who posted a 72.
So, what do you think? Is Green's victory a testament to her skill and consistency, or did she just get lucky? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's spark a discussion about this thrilling tournament!
