Disney's Road Expansion Hits a Major Speed Bump: A 15-Month Delay!
The much-anticipated road improvement project near the iconic Magic Kingdom has hit a significant snag. Disney's ambitious plan to widen World Drive and Floridian Way, a multi-phase endeavor, has encountered a delay that will push its completion date a whopping 15 months later than expected. This project, which has been in the works for years, involves not only road widening but also the addition of three traffic circles along Floridian Way, enhancing accessibility to the Car Care Center and Maple Road, as well as providing a new entrance to the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. These traffic circles will also serve the Polynesian Village Resort's new roadway entrance, offering a more seamless guest experience.
Initially, the final phase was set to wrap up by September of this year. However, funding constraints caused this phase to be divided into two, and other challenges arose. The construction of the Disney Vacation Club Island Tower, located adjacent to the road, in 2024, further complicated matters. These factors collectively contributed to the project's extended timeline.
Official documents from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District reveal that the new estimated completion date is December 21, 2027. This delay is sure to impact traffic flow and visitor experiences in the area.
